Landscaping: Landscaping Plants Best for Your Garden

The overall look and resale value of your house are enhanced by a beautifully landscaped backyard. It can even make your house something to be proud of as neighbors tend to get jealous of its charm. A great landscaped garden can feature various things such as rocks small waterfalls and ponds.

However, garden plants are the most important factor in landscaping. You can choose among four various kinds of plants which can be employed to enhance the beauty of your garden. These plants vary from those which repel insects and animals from eating or destroying other plants in your garden to those which are suitable to wet soil and other moist environments.

The groundcover plants are the first kind of landscaping plants. They are usually used beside trees, bushes and other big things in your garden. In over exposed areas it is best to use a sun loving plant like a juniper. Areas not exposed to the sun should be sufficiently planted with shade plants. These are plants that cannot tolerate sunlight well.

Plants that are "attractive" to birds should be placed in areas where birds commonly visit. These landscape plants which include bee balm and other pollen-producing plants attract hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and other creatures. Furthermore, plants that exude a nice aroma, "aroma plants", can be added to improve the relaxing aroma around your garden.

The second category of landscaping plants is the wet plants. Some areas in the United States particularly in the southeast and northwest parts experience high levels of rain throughout the year. In these places it is best to choose plants that readily adapt to wet soil all year round. Landscaped gardens featuring ponds or water falls should employ wet plants as water tends to spread throughout the garden eventually reaching landscape plants.

The repellent plants comprise the third type of landscaping plants. These plants are used to help keep animals away from your garden, thereby preventing possible destruction of your garden plants. Plants having sharp spots or thorns can be planted to repel animals such as deer and rabbits from eating your garden plants.

The fourth type of landscaping plants comprise of grasses which can either be functional or ornamental ones. Functional grass includes grass usually found in your lawn. It helps promote harmonious blending of plants with the rest of garden elements. Ornamental grass is employed as a way of enhancing the beauty of your garden as they can look great alongside bigger plants or water bodies.

Your garden can be more attractive with the use of these various landscape plants. Knowing what types of landscape plants work and look best in your backyard can enable you choose the right plants to achieve the overall look you want your garden to have. Maybe you'll be successful in earning the curiosity and jealousy of your neighbors as well.
